Synopsis School Motto & Goal

SCHOOL MOTTO: LEARNING HOW TO LEARN – A PROMISING FUTURE”

SCHOOL GOALS & PHILOSOPHY

The school’s philosophy is based on an old proverb that has some roots here in China.

“Give people a fish and you feed them for a day.

TEACH people HOW to fish and you feed them for a lifetime”

At The Canadian Trillium College (CTC) we strive to teach students HOW to learn. It is in learning the process of how to research, write, demonstrate and present knowledge in a variety of ways that students acquire skills for life-long learning. We never stop learning as long as we are alive.

Being rooted in this philosophy we begin to realize that a truly educated person is able to find the necessary information to understand concepts and complicated formulae and thus solve problems for themselves and society.

Our vision of an educated person is one who is a self-motivated, self-directed, problem solver who realizes his/her dreams and aspirations by sharing their gifts and talents with others.

To implement such a philosophy we strive to meet the following goals:

1.      To encourage students to acquire, to the limits of their individual physical, mental and emotional capacities, the skills essential to their continuing education.

2.      To aid students in developing the skills of inquiry, analysis, synthesis & evaluation.

3.      To foster in students intellectual curiosity, pursuit of excellence, and pride in accomplishment.

4.      To provide the opportunity for students to build a broadly based and diversified program.

5.      To develop within students recognition of and respect for the worth and rights of others; and a tolerant, cooperative attitude towards those with different viewpoints.

As a means of developing our school towards these goals the following activities are encouraged:

·           close cooperation between our Chinese partner and CTC school;

·           an atmosphere of mutual tolerance, trust and respect;

·           positive focus on discipline: a sense of order and student responsibility;

·           a spirit of social concern: locally, nationally, internationally;

·           strong professional student-teacher relationships;

·           active involvement in school affairs;

·           Some of the specific skills that students will be taught to help prepare for post-secondary levels of education are:

·           note-taking skills

·           summarization skills

·           problem-solving skills and activities

·           creative writing skills

·           various kinds of reading activities and skills
