Synopsis About Us

About Us

CTC is a private Canadian school that offers an Ontario Secondary School curriculum to students in China. The Great Lakes College of Toronto owns and operates the CTC campuses overseas. Each campus is a relatively small Ontario secondary school where the academic program is based on the Ontario curriculum. At each campus, we are partnered with a Chinese school where we share school facilities. Each campus has its own on-site principal who holds Ontario principal qualifications. Our schools are registered with the Ontario Government and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

The CTC Ontario Diploma program in China is a 3 year program that consists of 4 courses each year for the first two years followed by a third year of 8 senior division credit courses..

After successfully completing their Chinese Middle School program and successfully completing the necessary Ontario Secondary School courses and graduation requirements students may be granted an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The granting of an OSSD is based on the total educational experience the student has acquired over his/her entire educational history in China. This assessment will be made by the principal after reviewing each student’s academic history and receiving recommendations of course completion by their Ontario teachers. To receive an OSSD, students must also complete community service hours and successfully pass the Ontario Literacy Test or Course.

The most difficult task that all students will face is the acquisition of English as their second language. Students’ levels of English must increase rapidly so that they are able to cope with the Grade 11 and 12 levels of study in the pre-university strand and meet the requirements to receive a secondary school diploma in Ontario. Their pronunciation will be a weaker than native speakers from Ontario but their understanding and writing of the English language will be close to the level of other students from Canada. This is necessary for students to qualify for entry into a post-secondary school in Canada or other English speaking countries. To obtain this level of competency students will need to work very hard and practice their new language endlessly.

Since obtaining an OSSD is each student’s goal here at CTC, we are committed to offering students the best program that we can offer. We also have highly trained Ontario teachers who are available and most willing to help students experience success in their studies. They will demonstrate and teach all of the required knowledge, skills and attitudes required for students to be successful in any university or college abroad.

It is a challenging program but one that is attainable to those who are ready to make a serious commitment to this goal. Students must be ready to immerse themselves in English language activities at every opportunity to be successful in this venture. Once they have successfully completed this program students will be extremely happy with their accomplishment and your parents and teachers will be equally proud of their success!.

Our promise to all CTC students is that we will dedicate ourselves to assist them in fulfilling their academic dreams and personal goals. We ask in turn that everyone diligently attend to their studies and challenge themselves in becoming the best they can be.

This means that most of the teachers we hire for the schools in China (80%) must hold “Ontario Teaching Certification” through the Ontario College of Teachers.
